Une première photo de la Toro Rosso STR13 avait été révélée mercredi, après son premier roulage à Misano. La monoplace a été officiellement dévoilée ce matin à Barcelone, moins d’une heure avant le début des essais privés. La très attendue première collaboration entre Scuderia Toro Rosso et Honda, la STR13, a été présenté ce matin, juste avant le premier jour de la pré-série. les essais de saison ont commencé sur le circuit Barcelone-Catalunya. La STR13 arbore une livrée bleu, rouge et argent saisissante, mais elle marque l’histoire en devenant la première voiture produite par Toro Rosso et dotée d’un moteur en partenariat avec Honda.

“I am really looking forward to begin this new season a nd enter a new era for our team, working together with Honda. It’s an exciting time for Toro Rosso because we have not had our own en gine supplier before, so to partner with a manufacturer, with the history Honda has, will be great.

We also have two accomplished rookies for the 2018 season. They are not completely new because both Pierre and Brendon drove a handful of races for us last year, but this will be their first full season in Formula 1.

I’m convinced that if we provide them with a competitive car, they will be able to perform at very high levels. We have been working very hard on the STR13, and I’m happy we do not have to wait too long to see it running. The season has begun… Ganbarimasu!”

La Toro Rosso est l’une des monoplaces qui a évolué le plus depuis la saison dernière. Le nez fin est abandonné pour un nez large avec une pointe, similaire à celui de la Red Bull. Le halo intègre un élément aérodynamique.

Le staff technique de l’équipe italienne basée à Faenza a dû faire face à un défi de taille avec un changement de motorisation confirmé assez tard la saison passée, passant de Renault à Honda. Mais, Toro Rosso possède de l’expérience dans ce genre de challenge, ayant dû passer au Renault en 2014, puis au Ferrari en 2016 avant d’effectuer un retour au Renault en 2017.

Intégrer l’unité de puissance V6 turbo hybride Honda et tous ses accessoires à l’arrière du châssis de la SRT13 n’a pas été facile et a exigé certains compromis.
