C’est sous forme de concept que BMW montre cette descendante du fameux coupé produit de 1989 à 1999, à la veille de l’ouverture ce 26 mai du célèbre Concours d’Élégance de la Villa d’Este. The BMW Group is using this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este to unveil the BMW Concept 8 Series, the essence of a modern-day BMW coupe wrapped up in an enthralling design study.

BMW Concept 8 Series. Return to a new era.
A sign of things to come. The BMW Concept 8 Series is a preview of a model which BMW is set to introduce in a similar form in the coming year 2018. The BMW 8 Series Coupé will build on the company’s successful tradition of luxurious sports cars and adds another exciting model – a genuine dream car – to its existing luxury-class line-up.The BMW 8 Series Coupé will bring together razor-sharp dynamics and modern luxury, and set new benchmarks in the luxury coupé segment.The exterior brings together the past and the future. The BMW Concept 8 Series is immediately recognizable as a BMW, but also displays new design ideas and form-building techniques.

C’est le designer Adrian van Hooydonk et son équipe qui étaient aux commandes du projet.

Le regard perçant, avec technologie Laser, et les naseaux élément graphique des calandres BMW affirme son côté statutaire au coupé. Le capot bombé et les larges prises d’air y participent aussi.

The exterior brings together the past and the future. The BMW Concept 8 Series is immediately recognisable as a BMW, but also displays new design ideas and form-building techniques. “The design of the BMW Concept 8 Series provides a fresh interpretation of iconic BMW styling cues.
And it also showcases a new approach to the use of forms which is reflected particularly prominently in the car’s surfacing. A handful of crisp lines mark out clear surfaces, and the car’s volumes are powerfully sculpted. Together, these elements make a forceful statement and create a model brimming with character. In short, this is a driver’s car.”

Les lignes restent très fluides, joliment galbées au niveau des passages de roues pour donner du muscle. La ligne de toit fuyant, façon fastback ajoute au côté GT, l’arrière dispose d’un large aileron entre deux feux qui rappelle la BMW i8.

De profil, entre les larges jantes de 21 pouces, la carrosserie a été percée pour faire circuler l’air selon le fameux principe ‘Air Curtain’ que l’on trouve déjà sur nombre de BMW actuelles.

La fibre de carbone a été utilisée pour la lame avant et le diffuseur arrière.

Pour l’intérieur de ce concept BMW Série 8, on retrouve une ambiance sportive avec du cuir sur les sièges sport à la fibre de carbone sur la console centrale, en passant par l’aluminium sur le volant. Pour le luxe, la molette iDrive en verre Swarovski, parachève l’ensemble.

Pour le moment, aucun détail sur la motorisation usitée sous le capot de ce concept Série 8, BMW se contentant pour le moment de dévoiler le design de ce grand coupé… A suivre.
